Description
Final Illustration and Design for Zombie Cribbage card game. This was a card game created by my brother and will hopefully see the light of day on a game store shelf near you (though not any time soon). Please add a comment if you'd like to see a whole 33 card game with each card having an illustration like this.
So in the game each card is both a human (defense) and zombie (attack) so whether your attacking or defending each card has value each turn. Knowing that I had to create a card with two illustrations on either side, I got inspiration from an actual deck of cards... the mirror image face cards. I took that idea and ran with it.
This cover image (the only one that got beyond a sketch) played off the concept of the two figures actually fighting each other. I then tried to mirror the poses a little bit with one arm back and the other reaching.
My wife and I took photos of each other for reference and I worked almost completely digital to create this.
Ink drawing was done in Photoshop and the watercolor painting was done in ArtRage (in hindsight I should have done the ink drawing in ArtRage also cause I've come to love that program, but before getting it I had only over done drawing in Photoshop and wanted to avoid the learning curve at the time). I also went back and forth between PS and AR adjusting colors (which, now that I upgraded to ArtRage Pro I can do within AR and save myself that step in the future).
Text and Background were done in PS.
Background texture I got from deviantart [link]
Fonts used were Floydian and ABCTech Bodoni Mangle
